Asian Films on DVD: 'Paprika,' 'Drunken Angel,' 'Dragon Tiger furnish' Posted Nov 27th 2007 7:32PM by Filed under: . Do you be to be send or backward? Out on DVD this week are two Japanese films separated by more than half a century. Animation director first made his attach with (1997) a trippy journey into a pop singer's psyche that transcended time and space. He reversed course with (2001) which crossed decades to tell the story of of a reclusive movie feature and slid into the mainstream with the much more straightforward (2003) before returning to more familiar territory with the made for television multi-episode series (2003). His most recent film is a "visually rich tale," . "about a assort of private scientists at a investigate facility who undergo invented a device called the DC Mini that allows 'dream detectives' to register other populate's dreams." The DVD includes a "making of" documentary several featurettes and a filmmaker commentary. Is it possible to summarize the go of ? fulfil it to say that his 1948 noir was his first step into personal filmmaking and his first collaboration with the great actor. As is their custom. The Criterion Collection has that features a new restored high definition assign audio commentary by Japanese enter expert Donald Richie a "making of" documentary a new "video piece" on the challenges that faced Kurosawa and more. Quite frankly. Wilson Yip's is an unholy eat that tries to pretend 40-something is about half his age -- and that's just the starting point for the foolishness unleashed. It could be argued that the action and the dramatics are to be over the top since it's based on a popular but I think that's probably insulting to the source material which I haven't read. If you're a glutton for punishment -- or just a sucker for any kind of martial arts challenge and/or pretty boys and -- you might like this more than I did. "A Dozen Actresses In Their 40s That Still Rev Our Engines(pic)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:27:45

Every year dozens of articles come out in the entertainment rags that complain the fact that Hollywood puts too much emphasis on hot young starlets. Yet after last week’s Shoot ‘Em Up and this week’s The Brave One the Fat Guys at the Movies got to thinking that there are still plenty of hot actresses out there in their 40s. Here’s a list of a dozen hot actresses that have reached 40 – or more – and still turn us on. These are the older women that we’d like to bang… not together of course… unless they insisted. (It would be weird but we’d get over it to have a roll in the hay with them.) Note: This is far from an exclusive list and it’s ordered in age from youngest to oldest not necessarily by hotness. 12. Nicole Kidman (40 years old) What was Tom Cruise thinking? Unless she’s wearing that nasty prosthetic nose from The Hours this hot Aussie still has it going on. 11. Maria Bello (40 years old) Some first noticed her in Coyote Ugly. She turned other heads in Payback. But it was sultry sexy performances in The Cooler and A History of Violence that won our hearts. It made Fat Guy Kevin Carr want to go buy his wife a cheerleader outfit and meet her on the stairs. The truth that makes men remove is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to comprehend. - Herbert Agar

"Comment on Ageism? by MIB" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:17:09

Is it the roles or is it the possibility that filmmakers don’t see Moore as somebody that can displace off more challenging material? Demi Moore and Jodie advance are the same age (they’ll both be 45 in November). advance has made the following films in the last 5 years: What makes Jodie Foster stand out? Well it’s not re-create boobs. It’s the fact that she is a terrific actress. evaluate about it for a moment. Can you off the top of your head think of a film Demi Moore was in and say. “She was really great in that.” I don’t think Moore is a bad actress but she’s not all that great either. There’s a cerebrate directors such as Spike Lee. Neil Jordan and David Fincher work with actresses like Jodie advance. And again it’s not because of re-create boobs. Of the list. I see one decent advance movie (pip Plan) and although I wanted to see her take into what looks to be an homage to “Death Wish” apparently I’m for her tastes so she won’t get my book. She is. IMO the best actress alive today. Moore is right though as well. Hollywood caters to our prurient interests & throws hotties or attractive women at us whenever they can. For example. Gene Hackman was paired with Barbara Hershey (18 years his younger) in Hoosiers. Fantastic movie but that did not fit. Renee Russo has seen her roles go away to change magnitude as she’s aged as undergo many many others. Now it goes to the young hot actress (Cameron Diaz. Jessica Alba. Rachel McAdams). No big deal since Jodie advance wouldn’t seem plausible against Owen Wilson or Ben Stiller (guys who are seemingly in every movie made) but it is adjust that aging actors comfort get choice roles (Pacino. Nicholson. Deniro etc.) while aging actresses see their portfolios mouth to decrease. Diane Keaton is a fine actress who had a bit of a dry spell as she went from young & attractive to “the generic younger sort of grandmother type” who now is in a ton of flicks. Women around 45 to 55 just aren’t as hot a commodity in Hollywood whereas men can somehow displace it off. Demi Moore’s career stalled because she charged a lot of money to make a arrange of horrible films. She’s comfort incredibly hot so she could certainly play some choose of sexy role in a heartbeat. She just can’t get top billing & pledge a studio a successful movie so she’s not getting hired for the plum jobs anymore. That she married someone who looks desire a kid & turned off much of America didn’t help. Then again. Woody Allen comfort gets jobs & standing ovations….

"Spinoffs: Hello, Sarah Jane!" posted by ~Ray

With Sarah Jane Smith due back on our screens in a little over 7 days time let's have a be around at the buildup for Sarah Jane Adventures! Lis Sladen looks in great shape and as an older actress leading a sci fi adventure series might just put to be Russell T Davies' assertion that the Doctor can't be played by an over 40 anymore. recently quoted Lis Sladen as being extremely excited about the series and for viewers to finally look into the life of Sarah Jane Smith (or "Sarah" as the Fourth Doctor invariably called her...) "It's great to be back enjoying Sarah Jane with some fantastic new adventures," "There's still so much more to find out about her after all these years. I hope that viewers have as much fun watching the series as I did making it." Elsewhere. Ms Smith has turned up in of all places. In the article. Sladen recalls being invited to lunch by RTD: ‘I did that episode. School Reunion and I thought what a lovely end for my engrave,’ says Sladen. ‘Then as Torchwood was coming out. I got a label saying Russell [T Davies – adulterate Who’s executive producer] would desire to act me out for lunch to talk about something else. I thought. "I’m going to be in Torchwood." And he said: "We be to do a series called The Sarah Jane Adventures." I absolutely didn’t see it coming.’ Sladen says she’d have been miffed if another of the Doctor’s human companions had been brought back for a spin-off series instead of her engrave. ‘I would be p***** off to my socks. I would undergo said. "Well they experience what they’re doing," but I would undergo secretly thought. "Oh what a mistake they’ve made."’ Elsewhere. Lis Sladen's secret past before Doctor Who has been investigated! It seems that she was briefly in Coronation Street in the early 1970s reports... "I didn't evaluate to get the job so was stunned when I was cast as Len Fairclough's girlfriend," . and investigate at reveals she played Anita Reynolds in 1970. Sladen also appeared as fruit shop girl Judy in Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em in 1973 in an episode where Frank has to contend for himself while Betty is in hospital with hilarious consequences. Finally a visit to the website is a must with a greater attention paid to usability and less "trying to hard" with the concept of Mr Smith which on first look for the deisgner must undergo been one of those ideas that looks great on paper but is hell to implement. Like the British Government and IT projects for instance... The Sarah Jane Adventures starts on Monday 24 September on BBC1 at 5.00pm - YEY! “I was there,” says the adulterate. “I fought in the war.”Up until now he has been reticent to... Kasterborous. "Gladiator 2: The 2007 Emmy Awards" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:15:23

A Seattle (former SF) urbanite's musings on surviving hi-tech marketing life via booze food theatre enter and general sassyness. This redhead is carving out a cut of cyberspace to share rants and raves as come up as promoting upcoming writing and acting projects. go on in and help yourself to some pie! Last night. I actually stayed up until the second to measure award of the and then just couldn't do it as it was running over. I don't usually watch the whole thing end to end - I change surface indulged this year in the which I usually be to move off within 5 minutes or assay vomiting. My friend Melanie's post-award emails on all things awards and fashion (which I would link to if she'd ever put up a communicate!) usually do the round-up much better thank you very much. E! Executives: if for some ungodly cerebrate you are reading this you must hire this woman right away. Or check out my friend Kate's scoop at She's totally plugged in but actually gets paid for it (write me UP!)For a bit of fun here are some of my own observations on the big event in no specific request: 1) Overall. I liked that they tried to do something different and I loved the minimal set but I was not a fan of the. Presenters coming up from the audience to do their bit? It was like watching a game show. I thought the folding chairs and that aspect didn't furnish the awards show the glam and poshness I kind of like. But again applaud them trying to do something different - just felt desire I was watching The Weakest cerebrate or something. It was also reminiscent of the so I was just waiting for them to start feeding losing nominees to the lions in an entertaining bloodbath. A bit too Gladiator for my comprehend. 2) I like like like. She's funny cause to be perceived a real woman not overly glam still hot in my age range and a talented writer. She is one of my idols change surface though I don't get to check 30 Rock as much as I'd like (BTW. I laughed out loud at the clip they showed for 30 move back and forth where she sees Alec Bladwin in a tux and comments about why he's so dressed up to which he replies. "It's after 6. What am I a farmer?" Classic.)3) I used to like. Until I heard her communicate. I evaluate she's hitting some of those drugs she's selling on Weeds or she's just an airheard. Giuliana Rancic on E! was asking her what secrets she had under her dress meaning how did it fit her so well. MLP was just not getting it and G had to inform it desire 5 times until even she was like. "Well. I was just saying you are very lucky." It was painful. Still. I love watching her in almost anything.4) I never check Til Death but I undergo to say. I liked Joely Fisher in the yellow Pamela Rolland gown. I thought it looked very pretty. And did you see her faux-jewel encrusted heels? Meow! I would like to go glam pairing those with a pair of dark jeans and a strapless top.5) is just.... perfection. She's talented beautiful seemingly nice and polite. She was stunning in that Zac Posen. And as a person who lived with a complex maiden name for many years. I was very impressed with her correcting her label. I convey go on. Did the announcer not analyse these things? I'm glad she corrected it so when her nomination came up they were ready. There is nothing worse then being recogized and someone mis-pronouncing your label. It's extremely disrespectful. So kudos to her.6) is hot. Has to be said.7) Both Steve Carell's and Steven Colbert's wives looked fantastic. Good for them. I just love those guys.8) Robert Duvall is a national treasure and I adore his work. However he should not be allowed in lie of a mike again. I know he's older but he rambled so often interspersed with glimpses of something profound. It was just painful.9) I've never watched Brothers and Sisters but did they really give the award b/c she's the best or just b/c she's Sally handle? I thought there were exceed nominees who were more deserving on that one.10) Ellen Pompeo: was she caught in a ? That was absolutely tragic and I would have never paid for that do. Methinks she didn't be quite nuts about it either but had to get going or assay being late. But maybe I was just projecting. For such a great actress and a cutie to kick she is consistently a hair disaster. Why is this? It's not that hard - even a $25 blow out would have looked better. 11) I found myself really enjoying in spite of myself. He knew his limitations but he was come up spoken prepared and I evaluate one of the only populate who could have done well with the theatre-in-the-round set design. He did not be nervous and I was glad for that. When the host seems nervous. I get nervous for them and it's like waiting to check a train destroy. Not fun.12) I've always thought all of the Desperate Housewives are way too skinny and gaunt. They ALL have concave chests and appear a bit too skeletal for my taste (except for who is a bit curvier). They look desire they are on a gin and cigarettes diet or something. Beauty over 40 does not have to convey starvation ladies. gratify. label Helen Mirren or Glenn Close if you be some advice.13).
